💬 💬 How it started

Sandra meets Jonas & Mads.

Hello! I'm Sandra, and I work with the CMS/UX team 😍 here at Whatscore. Today, I'm excited to bring you a special chat with Jonas Jensen and Mads Paulsen, the creative minds behind THIS website 🤩 🤩 🤩

Whatscore, a betting tip platform that's transforming complex data and numbers into straightforward, easy-to-understand betting tips.

Whatscore founders, Mads & Jonas

I met up with these two friends who first connected over a poker game almost 15 years ago. They've turned their passion for sports and data into this innovative business.

Jonas, often called the "Swedish Viking," has been a major force in betting system development for over two decades. Mads, hailing from Denmark, isn't just a pro at poker; he's also a sharp internet entrepreneur, known for his earlier venture, Trendlists.com.

Let's jump right in and learn more about their journey, get some insights, and maybe even uncover some fun facts about them. Here we go!

Sandra: Hey Jonas, Mads, great to finally meet the brains behind Whatscore! Thanks for sitting down with me today. I’ve got to ask right off the bat—did either of you imagine, back at that poker tournament, that you’d end up here?

Jonas: Absolutely not! We were just two guys trying not to lose our shirts. It's funny how life deals you these cards, right?

Mads: Totally, it was all about the cards then, but now we’re trying to play a bigger game with Whatscore.

Sandra:: Speaking of games, Mads, you’re from Denmark, Jonas, you’re Swedish—so, ice hockey rivalry much?

Jonas: Oh, always! We keep score. Right now, I think I’m winning...

Mads: He wishes! Let’s just say our competitive spirit is what really fuels Whatscore’s innovation.

Sandra: Love that! So, ten years after that initial meeting, you reconnected at a tech conference. Was it a ‘eureka’ moment deciding to start Whatscore together?

Jonas: It was more of a 'finally' moment! We’d been toying with the idea over coffee and countless Skype calls. When we saw what was possible with machine learning, we knew we had to jump in.

Mads: And let me tell you, deciding to go global based on the feedback from our beta was as nerve-wracking as any poker game I’ve played!

Sandra:: I can imagine! Now for a bit of a personal twist—outside of betting and algorithms, what’s a hobby or passion that surprises people?

Mads: I bake! Danish pastries, to be specific. There’s something about the precision it requires—it’s not unlike developing algorithms.

Jonas: For me, it’s gardening. There’s something calming about battling weeds instead of bad betting odds.

Sandra: That’s brilliant! You’ve got the sweet and the serene covered. Finally, any advice for budding entrepreneurs?

Jonas: Dive in. The world of startups is like betting—calculated risks, sometimes you win big, sometimes you learn.

Mads: And build a great team. Like a good poker game, it’s all about who's at the table with you.

Sandra: Thanks, guys, for sharing your journey and some laughs. Here's to Whatscore continuing to break the mold!

Mads & Jonas: Cheers to that! 🥳 🥳
